Grand Imam’s meetings with Pope Francis redressed Islam’s image in the West, President of Romanian ICC
The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received Ms. Roberto Fontolan, President of the International Cultural Centre (ICC) in Rome, and her accompanying delegation.
The Grand Imam said that the theory of civilized acquaintance in which we believe is derived from the teachings of the Islamic religion, which instruct us to build up bridges of communication, acquaintance and dialogue with other nations. He pointed out the existence of an agreement in visions between Al-Azhar and the Vatican in humanitarian issues, which raises hopes to achieve real peace in the world.
The President of the ICC in Rome said that the important meetings that brought together His Eminence the Grand Imam with Pope Francis, Pope of the Vatican, contributed greatly to enhancing understanding between religious leaders and redressing the wrong image of Islam in the West. She stressed that the Grand Imam's foreign visits to Europe have played an important role in building up bridges of communication and dialogue between religious institutions and societies in the East and the West.
