Al-Azhar expertise capable of providing scientific and advocacy qualifications for Africa, APRM Representative
The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received Representative of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), Mr. Khayar Omar Fadlallah during his visit to Cairo.
The Grand Imam said the huge capabilities and wealth that Africa possesses enable it to achieve a major renaissance, adding that Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif gives priority to supporting the African countries, as it receives thousands of African students to study at Al-Azhar, instilling in them the curriculum of moderation, uprightness and acceptance of the other. He also indicated that it also receives large numbers of imams to train in contemporary issues such as coexistence and terrorism, as well as sending relief and medical convoys that provide aid to the African communities, regardless of religion and ethnicity.
Mr. Fadlallah, for his part, said that Africa needs to increase cooperation and exchange of experience among its countries and peoples in order for the continent to achieve integration and self-sufficiency.
The representative of the APRM expressed the African Union's wish to benefit from Al-Azhar's long experience, which extends for hundreds of years. This long experience, which is lacking to other institutions, makes Al-Azhar the most capable of providing scientific and missionary qualifications to Africans.
