Grand Imam meets Qatari Ambassador to boost academic and religious cooperation
The Qatari Ambassador affirms his country’s appreciation of the Grand Imam’s role in serving Islam and defending the nation’s causes.
His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad al-Tayyeb received Mr. Tariq Ali Faraj Al-Ansari, Qatar's Ambassador to Egypt, on Thursday at Al-Azharheadquarters. His Eminence expressed Al-Azhar's pride in its good relations with the State of Qatar, recalling his numerous visits and scholarly activities there, and praising the authentic Arab character of the Qatari people.
The Grand Imam also addressed the aggression in Gaza, explaining that the root of the crisis lies in the continued Zionist occupation. He emphasized that true peace will only be achieved if the Palestinian people obtain their rights to establish an independent state with al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital.
His Eminence warned of the dangers of division and discord in the Islamic world, citing the Almighty's words in the Holy Qur'an: “Do not dispute with one another, or you would be discouraged and weakened.” He emphasized that unjust practices—such as the colonization of land, the killing of innocents, and supporting occupiers—hinder global dialogue efforts and require a radical reconsideration.
The Qatari Ambassador, for his part, expressed his happiness at meeting His Eminence the Grand Imam, conveying his country's official and popular appreciation for the pivotal role played by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar in serving Islam and defending the nation's causes. He emphasized that the Arab and Islamic world recognizes His Eminence's distinguished scholarly and spiritual standing and his steadfast positions, praising his significant role in spreading the values of human brotherhood and promoting interfaith dialogue.
