Grand Imam mourns Dr. Rifaat Al-Awadi, the prominent scholar of Islamic economics
His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad al-Tayyeb mourns Prof. Rifaat El-Sayed al-Awadi, Professor of Economics at Al-Azhar University, Member of the Islamic Research Academy, and one of the most prominent Islamic economists of the modern era, who passed away today, Saturday, at the age of 87.
Al-Azhar Al-Sharif commends the deceased for having devoted his life to the service of Islamic science and economics, teaching it to numerous generations of students at Al-Azhar University and other universities across the Arab and Islamic world. The late professor left a profound impact in this field, setting an example in combining academic specialization with Islamic law. He contributed to numerous scientific conferences both inside and outside Egypt, which consolidated the concepts of economic justice in light of the pure Sharia.
The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar extends his sincere condolences to the family of the deceased, his students, and colleagues, as well as to the Islamic Research Academy. He asks Almighty Allah to bestow His mercy upon the deceased, reward him for his knowledge and work, and grant him a place in His spacious Paradise. He also prays to Allah to grant his family and loved ones patience and fortitude. “Indeed we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.”
