The Grand Imam signs an MoU to enhance cooperation between Al-Azhar University and Cairo University

The Grand Imam receives the President of Cairo University to discuss ways to enhance scientific and cultural cooperation.

His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad al-Tayyeb received today, Monday, at Al-Azhar headquarters, Professor Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek, President of Cairo University, in the presence of Professor Salama Daoud, President of Al-Azhar University, and the Vice Presidents of Al-Azhar and Cairo Universities, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides.



The Grand Imam said: “The relations that bind Al-Azhar University and Cairo University are ancient and deeply rooted,” stressing the need for concerted efforts of Egyptian and Arab universities to advance the future of scientific research in order to keep pace with the ongoing renaissance and continuous change in various fields of knowledge. His Eminence stated: “There is no solution to what has been broken in the fabric of our civilization except to start from our ancient Islamic heritage and rely on this vast history in the horizon of the future and modernity. It is necessary to make the maximum use of modern technology to serve scientific research and its applied purposes.”


Professor Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadek and his accompanying delegation expressed their delight at meeting the Grand Imam and their appreciation for his significant efforts in disseminating the true image of Islam and consolidating the values of brotherhood and global peace. They affirmed their pride in the venerable Al-Azhar institution as a beacon of knowledge and a destination for students of Islamic sciences worldwide. He also emphasized Cairo University's commitment to building bridges of cooperation with Al-Azhar University through the exchange of academic visits at faculty, research, and student levels, intensifying joint research projects between the two universities, and exchanging academic expertise.


The Grand Imam also witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between Al-Azhar University and Cairo University. The protocol was signed by presidents of the two universities. The protocol stipulates that the two universities agree to implement what achieves the future plans of Egypt Vision 2030, through cooperation with the industrial sector, enhancing the role of universities in serving the most needy areas, and seeking to conclude an agreement with the ministries concerned with rural development in order to access reliable information. In addition, the two sides will exchange visits via coordinators to push the exchange of experiences and participation in development activities, as well as establishing a mechanism for publishing and announcing awareness activities, highlighting the value of integration between universities, and organizing competitions in various scientific fields between the youth of the two universities.
