Al-Azhar Grand Imam to visit Italy to join global conference “Finding the Courage to Pursue Peace”

His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad al-Tayyeb is heading today, Saturday, to the Italian capital, Rome, on an official visit to participate in the work of the World Conference organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio under the title “Finding the Courage to Pursue Peace”, in the presence of a number of leaders and decision-makers, most notably His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, Pope of the Catholic Church, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, and Queen Mathilde, Queen of Belgium, in addition to an elite of religious figures and thinkers from around the world.




The Grand Imam is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the opening session of the conference, in which he will emphasize the importance of achieving peace based on justice, and the moral and humanitarian responsibility of religious leaders to work towards ending conflicts, wars and disputes.

His Eminence the Grand Imam will also meet with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, Pope of the Vatican, and a number of the most prominent religious leaders, and thinkers participating in this global summit, to discuss the most prominent current issues on the religious and international arenas. The Grand Imam hopes to strengthen the voice of religions to stop the crises, wars and conflicts that our world is witnessing today; foremost among them is the aggression against Gaza and the West Bank. Also, this will emphasize the importance of adhering to the peace agreement hosted by the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, as a fundamental step towards establishing security and stability in the region and the world.
