Grand Imam of Al-Azhar welcomes Juba Peace Agreement, hoping that it launches a “new phase” in Sudan’s renaissance

The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, welcomed the initialing of the peace agreement in Juba, which was signed between the brotherly Sudanese, yesterday, Monday. In a tweet posted on his official Facebook page, the Grand Imam noted, “We welcome the peace agreement between the brotherly Sudanese, and pray to Allah that it may mark the beginning of a new phase that contributes to the renaissance of this genuine Arab country, and that the Almighty Allah may grant them insight, inspire them with wisdom, and guide them to serve their people.” The agreement was signed in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, yesterday, Monday, between the Sudanese government, the Revolutionary Front and the Sudan Liberation Movement-Minni Minawi, and was attended by the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, and the heads of the Sovereignty Councils and the transitional ministers in Sudan, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and Abdullah Hamdok. The agreement dealt with issues that included political aspects, security arrangements and political tracks.
