Today, Thursday, at Al-Azhar Mosque, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb discussed with HRH Prince Charles, Heir Apparent to the British throne and Prince of Wales, the climate change crisis, the serious challenges it poses to the world, and possible solutions to them.  HE the Grand Imam indicated that the results of the Global Climate Summit “COP26” did not meet the needs and the desired objectives, expressing his hope that the efforts of fair-minded people, such as Prince Charles, will contribute to defending the rights of poor countries, and urging the international community to take those countries and their interests into account, towards alleviating their suffering. The Grand Imam added that he had recently participated in the global preparatory summit for COP26, in the presence of a large number of religious figures and leaders, hosted by Pope Francis, in the hope of contributing to the development of appropriate solutions to this global crisis. Yet, the Grand Imam noted, the results were not up to the required level.
For his part, Prince Charles explained that he had spent more than forty years searching for solutions to this global crisis, stressing that he had issued an explicit invitation to the governments participating in COP26, to the G20 Summit and to other relevant global summits to direct their investments towards infrastructure projects and the projects that help in preserving the environment and addressing climate change. He stressed that he sensed great interest in preserving the environment and protecting it from pollution in the teachings of Islam and the teachings of other religions.
