Today, Tuesday, at Al-Azhar Headquarters, the Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb received Sheikh Abdul Latif bin Abdul Aziz Al Al-Sheikh, Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs, Da’wah and Guidance to discuss joint cooperation between the two parties. HE the Grand Imam affirmed his appreciation for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and his appreciation for the efforts made by His Majesty in serving the causes of the Arab and Muslim countries, praying to Allah Almighty to bless him with continued health and wellbeing. The meeting involved talks about women rights in Islam. The Grand Imam stressed the necessity of reviving the “right of toil and pursuit” fatwa in our Islamic heritage. This is meant to preserve the rights of working women who contribute to accruing their husbands’ wealth, especially in light of the modern developments that required women to enter the labor market and share the burdens of life with their husbands. He also asserted that the Islamic heritage is rich in its deep investigations of various issues, and that the Islamic Sharia is keen to safeguard women’s rights and ensure their dignity.

The Grand Imam underscored that conjugal life is not built on sheer rights and duties, but rather on love, affection, and mutual support. Hence, the wife, like the husband, helps in building a righteous and constructive family that contributes to the advancement and progress of the society, and raises generations capable of giving.

For his part, Sheikh Abdul Latif bin Abdul Aziz Al Al-Sheikh expressed his appreciation for the Grand Imam and all the scholars of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, the depth of relations between Al-Azhar and KSA, and the constant coordination in investigating new occurrences and jurisprudential developments, given the great status of Al-Azhar and the Grand Imam in the Muslim world.
