Defending Islam, the Grand Imam: “We do not accept that the symbols and sanctities of Islam be victims of cheap mongering in the market of politics and electoral struggles”.
The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb announced his condemnation of the fierce and systematic campaign against Islam, refusing that its symbols and sanctities be victims of cheap mongering in the market of politics and electoral struggles in the West. He stated, in a tweet published today, Saturday, in Arabic, French and English, “We are now witnessing a systematic campaign to plunge Islam into political battles and create chaos that began with a malicious attack on the Prophet of mercy (pbuh).” He then added, "I say to those who justify insulting the Prophet of Islam (pbuh): The real crisis is a result of your intellectual duplicity and narrow agendas, and I remind you that the key responsibility of leaders is to maintain civil peace, social security, and respect for religions, and to protect peoples from falling into strife, rather than fuel conflict in the name of freedom of expression".
