The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, mourned Mrs. Samīˁah Bakr Al-Banāsī, the oldest female teacher of the Glorious Qur’an, through a tweet on his official social media accounts, Facebook and Twitter: “May Allah show mercy to Sheikha Al-Banāsī, the oldest female teacher of the Qur’an, who was a model of a sincere woman who met her Lord after having dedicated her life to serving the Book of Allah. O Allah, make the Qur’an an intercessor for her, and shower her with Your Grace and Bountifulness. You are the Most Merciful.” Shiekha Samīˁah Al-Banāsī, aged ninety, passed away last Wednesday. She was famous for her perfect memorization of the Noble Qur’an and her excellent command of the different Qur’an recitations in Egypt and around the world. She had a melodious voice in reciting the Noble Qur’an, which made male and female students and memorizers of the Qur’an approach her from inside and outside Egypt, including Arab, Asian and European countries, to learn at her hands and draw from her knowledge.
