The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar mourns Dr. ˁAblah Al-Kahlawi, affirming: “She was a role model for women serving their faith and society”.
On his official Facebook and Twitter accounts, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb mourned Dr. ˁAblah Al-Kahlawi who passed away yesterday, Sunday, at 72, after contracting coronavirus. The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar affirmed that Dr. ˁAblah Al-Kahlawi was “a role model for women serving their faith and society”, adding that “She followed the path of calling people to Allah, won the hearts and enlightened the people with her knowledge. Allah willed to make her a helper to the poor and the orphans; may Allah Almighty bless her with vast mercy and forgiveness and make her knowledge and efforts an intercessor for her (on the Judgment Day): ‘Surely, we belong to Allah and unto Him we shall return’” Dr. ˁAblah Al-Kahlawi was a Professor of Jurisprudence at the Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies (Female Branch), Al-Azhar University. She specialized in Islamic Sharia, where she obtained an MA in comparative jurisprudence in 1974, and then a PhD in 1978 in the same area of specialization. She then assumed different academic positions, including her secondment to the College of Education for Girls in Riyadh, and the Girls’ College at Al-Azhar University. In 1979, she became Head of the Sharia Department at the College of Education in Makkah Al-Mukarramah.
