Today, Thursday, at the Headquarters of Al-Azhar, H.E Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, received Dr. Ibrahim Al-Chaibi, Tunisian Minister of Religious Affairs, to discuss ways to boost scientific and Da’wah cooperation between Tunisia and Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif. H.E the Grand Imam averred: Al-Azhar takes pride in its historical relations with the Republic of Tunisia and in the longstanding cooperation between Al-Azhar University and the Universities of Kairouan and Ez-Zitouna. He noted that Sheikh Muhammad Al-Khader Hussein, the Tunisian, held the position of Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, as the first non-Egyptian to hold the post, the case which reflected the close relationship between Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif and sisterly Tunisia. Besides, the Grand Imam expressed Al-Azhar’s readiness to engage in new areas of cooperation between Al-Azhar University and Tunisian universities, through the exchange programs for professors, researchers, and students, and to increase the number of scholarships offered to Tunisian students to enroll in the various educational levels at Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif. He noted that currently 67 male and female Tunisian students are enrolled in the prestigious institutes and the university of Al-Azhar.
The two parties discussed the key developments on the Palestinian scene, and the Grand Imam expressed his deep sorrow at what is befalling the innocent Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and the inhuman crimes committed by the Zionist entity against our brotherly Palestinian people, with the cutting off of water, medicine and food. He stressed that the Muslim and Arab nation possesses the capabilities to stand up against the weak Zionist entity, which targets innocent civilians only to parade its power before the Western world that blesses its crimes and conspires with it. This complicity comes through supplying the Zionists with weapons or remaining silent about its terrorist crimes. The Grand Imam also expressed his astonishment and regret at the lack of awareness about the Palestinian cause in our Arab and Muslim countries, despite its being the primary Arab and Muslim cause.
On the other hand, he noted, “We see the Zionists and those behind them falsifying history and facts, inculcating such falsities in their children at an early age, and promoting their lies day and night through their control of the media and digital platforms. However, he went on, we Arabs and Muslims are still confused despite our possession of wealth and resources. He then hoped that Arabs and Muslims learn the lesson and begin to possess media outlets and digital platforms that can convey the Arab and Muslim voice and express the legitimacy of their causes. Likewise, he asserted that we should not rely on the West to communicate our voice since it contradicts their orientations!
For his part, Dr. Al-Chaibi expressed his pleasure to meet with the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, declaring, “Your Eminence’s positions on all causes of the Arab nation and the Muslim world are firm and substantial, and they will remain immortal, honored and a source of pride for the Muslim nation. Wherever you go, you present the honorable image of Islam and Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif.” He then concluded, "We hope that what is happening in Palestine will push us toward rapprochement and working together for the advancement of our nation and our homelands."
