Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims’ Board congratulates the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and the Council of Muslim Elders (MCE) on the opening of the MCE’s regional office in Kazakhstan.

The Grand Imam: Al-Azhar is ready to increase scholarships for the Azerbaijani students and to host and train Azerbaijani imams at the Al-Azhar Academy for the Training of Imams and Preachers. 

His Eminence Today, Thursday, at the Headquarters of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, H.E Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb received Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims’ Board, Member of the Muslim Council of Elders, to discuss ways to boost joint cooperation. Sheikh Pashazade expressed his pleasure to meet the Grand Imam and appreciation for his efforts to support the causes of the Muslim nation and the causes of Muslim communities around the world. He conveyed to the Grand Imam Mr. Ilham Aliyev’s, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, greetings and wishes for good health and wellness. He also conveyed Mr. Aliyev’s appreciation for the role of the Grand Imam and Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif in presenting the true image of Islam and refuting the misconceptions spread by radical and extremist groups. Sheikh Pashazade extended an official invitation to the Grand Imam to visit Azerbaijan. He also congratulated the Grand Imam and the MCE on the opening of the MCE’s regional office in Kazakhstan, and his pleasure to have attended the opening ceremony. He further underscored the important role that the regional office will play in serving the Muslims of Central Asia and strengthening relations with religious institutions in Asia. Besides, he expressed Azerbaijan’s aspiration to intensify cooperation with Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif through mutual exchange programs for scholars, researchers and students of Al-Azhar University and Azerbaijani universities.

For his part, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar expressed his appreciation and thanks to the Azerbaijani President for his kind message and for the invitation presented to him by Sheikh Pashazade to visit Azerbaijan. HE underscored Al-Azhar’s efforts to strengthen relations with Azerbaijan through enrolling Azerbaijani students at Al-Azhar. He also highlighted Al-Azhar’s readiness to increase educational scholarships offered to Azerbaijani students, and to host Azerbaijani imams and preachers for training in Al-Azhar International Academy for the Training of Imams and Preachers. In this respect, the Grand Imam noted that a special training curriculum is tailored to suits the nature of the Azerbaijani society and meets the needs of the Azerbaijanis by focusing on issues of coexistence and refuting the ideology of extremist groups.
