Presidents of the Indonesian Peace Institute (IPI) and Al-Amin Al-Islami institute in Indonesia: We take pride in affiliating with Al-Azhar and in representing it in regional and international forums.
IPI President: Al-Azhar curricula is taught in the various educational stages in the IPI.
H.E. Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, stated that Al-Azhar is keen to host international students and provide them with full care that helps them acquire knowledge in Al-Azhar University and institutes. He noted that Al-Azhar allocates 267 scholarships to Indonesian students, and that nearly 12,000 Indonesian male and female students are enrolled in various educational levels at Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif. During his meeting with Sheikh Hassan Abdullah Sahl, Gontor-located IPI President, and Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Tijani, President of Al-Amin Al-Islami, Madura, H.E. Grand Imam At-Tayyeb added, that Al-Azhar is proud of its strong historical relations with Indonesia, at the levels of scholars, researchers, and students. He added that Al-Azhar counts on its Indonesian students and graduates to spread the Azharite moderate, enlightened approach in Indonesia and in Southeast Asian countries in general. He further noted that Al-Azhar alumni represent Al-Azhar’s soft power and serve as Al-Azhar’s ambassadors in Indonesia. Hence, he pointed out, Al-Azhar is keen to maintain communication with its alumni and keep them fully informed of its efforts and positions towards various issues, especially those pertaining to the Muslim nation.
For their part, Sheikh Shah and Dr. Tijani expressed their pleasure to meet the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and the Indonesian scholars’ appreciation for his efforts to serve the causes of the Muslim nation. They stressed that Al-Azhar alumni in Indonesia enjoy solid reputation among their peers and fill various leadership positions in Indonesian institutions and authorities. Sheikh Sahl reviewed the IPI’s Da’wah and educational efforts, pointing out that Al-Azhar curricula are approved for teaching at the IPI’s various university and institute levels. He added that the IPI includes the University of Dar Es- Salaam, an Islamic institute with 400 branches in Indonesia, 21 administrative headquarters, offices for kindergartens and memorization of the Noble Quran, and a number of hospitals and clinics that serve Indonesians. He then underscored the IPI’s pride in its affiliation with Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, and its appreciation for Al-Azhar’s allocating 80 scholarships to graduates of the Dar Es- Salaam Institute to join Al-Azhar University. According to him, the alumni currently serve as ministers, governors and presidents of universities in Indonesia, and they represent Al-Azhar well in various regional and international forums.
Dr. Tijani also reviewed the Al-Amin Al-Islami’s efforts to serve the Muslims of Indonesia, noting that the foundation includes a religious institute, an Islamic university, a hospital, and a number of kindergartens and cultural offices. He concluded that approximately 100,000 male and female students are enrolled in Al-Amin Al-Islami.
