Grand Imam of Al-Azhar mourns scholar Ahmad Taha Rayyan: “The Muslim world has lost a shining beacon of knowledge”.

In constant content with Allah’s Decree, His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmed El-Tayeb, mourned Egyptian scholar and jurist Prof. Ahmad Taha Rayyan, Professor of Comparative Jurisprudence, member of the Islamic Senior Scholars Academy, former dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law, and the leading Sheikh of the Maliki Madhhab in Egypt and the Muslim world, who passed away today, Wednesday. The Grand Imam asserts that the Muslim world has lost a luminary beacon of knowledge and that the late scholar spared no effort in serving Islam and the Muslims, leaving behind a great legacy in the field of Islamic jurisprudence and enriching the Azharite and Islamic library. Through the records of his lectures, classes and lessons in Al-Azhar Mosque and University and in other academic circles, this bustling academic activity shall keep alive the memory of the late Professor. His writings will remain a primary reference for knowledge seekers. As the Grand Imam expresses his sadness and pain at the passing away of the eminent scholar, he extends sincere condolences to the family of the late Prof. Rayyan and his disciples and fans, asking Allah Almighty to bless him with ample mercy and to dwell him in vast gardens of Paradise, and to lend his family patience and solace: "Surely, we belong to Allah and unto Him we shall return."
