Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, mourning eminent scholar Ahmad Taha Rayyan, prays: “May Allah show mercy to my dear brother and respectable colleague, my fellow in the journey of learning and knowledge acquisition”.
The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, mourning eminent scholar Ahmad Taha Rayyan, stated, “May Allah show mercy to my dear brother and respectable colleague, my fellow in the journey of learning and knowledge acquisition, Prof. Ahmad Taha Rayyan, Professor of Comparative Jurisprudence and Maliki Jurisprudence at Al-Azhar, member of the Islamic Senior Scholars Academy, former dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law. He was an eminent scholar, a meticulous researcher, and a noble and bountiful person among his students and disciples. He (may Allah bless his soul) was unflinching in declaring his opinions in defense of the Sharia, fearing none other than Almighty Allah. He spent his whole life in research and enriched the Azharite library through his books and articles in jurisprudence, theology and Hadith. With his passing away, Al-Azhar loses a cornerstone in Maliki Jurisprudence and legislation at Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif and Al-Azhar University, specifically, the Faculty of Sharia and Law. My fellow members of Al-Azhar Senior Islamic Scholars Academy and I mourn him in patient endurance of Almighty Allah’s Decree and pray to the Almighty to grant him the company of prophets, saints, martyrs and devout Muslims, to bless his family and to lend his family, students and disciples patience and acceptance of Divine Predestination: "Surely, we belong to Allah and unto Him we shall return."
