Grand Imam of Al-Azhar: The "Interfaith Pavilion" and "Confluence of Conscience" are pioneering MCE initiatives in the face of environmental threats.
Grand Imam At-Tayyeb calls for a stop of the aggression on Gaza and an end to the murdering of children, babies, and premature infants.
Grand Imam At-Tayyeb: If the aggression on Gaza continues, we will have no viable environment nor habitable climate for our children or the coming generations.
Perplexed by the hellish killing machine that the hard-hearted entity operate against women, children, babies, and premature infants, Grand Imam At-Tayyeb states: It is time to stop horrific and criminal wars.
HE Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, MCE Chairman, expressed his appreciation for the exceptional commitment of the United Arab Emirates, under the leadership of H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to encounter one of the greatest challenges facing humanity today, i.e. climate change and the accumulation of its detrimental effects. During his telerecorded speech at the signing ceremony of the "Confluence of Conscience: Abu Dhabi Interfaith Statement for COP28", and the opening of the Interfaith Pavilion within COP28, Grand Imam At-Tayyeb added that the exceptional initiative submitted by the MCE to invite the symbolic figures of different religions to sign the  "Confluence of Conscience Document (Abu Dhabi Interfaith Statement for COP28)", as well as to establish the Interfaith Pavilion - for the first time - within COP28 to cooperate with the UN and the UAE constitute a precious opportunity to boost efforts towards protecting our common environment and saving it from destruction. Such potential destruction, he added, becomes almost inevitable through its harbingers looming year after year, including natural disasters, torrential floods, wildfires, severe drought, extinction of numerous living species, and spread of epidemics, pests, and diseases. Grand Imam At-Tayyeb further indicated that Islam has a specific position on the environment and its elements, starting with the earth, through all the living species on land, to all sea and air species. This position is succinctly embodied in the Divine Command directed to every human being, believer and non-believer alike, to reform the earth and all that is on it, and in the prohibition and warning against causing corruption to it or any of its elements. He then asserted that the environment and natural elements constitute the clearest evidence that guides the mind to knowing Allah Almighty and believing in Him. Hence, he then commented, in Islamic logic, humans are responsible for the environment, just as they are responsible for themselves and their fellow human beings. Accordingly, Grand Imam At-Tayyeb noted, the earth and whatever is on it constitute a trust in the hands of humans, and thus humans shall stand accountable before Allah on the Day of Resurrection for repairing it and for protecting it from corruption.
Grand Imam At-Tayyeb went on: Allah Almighty has warned humans that if they make mischief on earth, they taste diseases, calamities, and disasters as much as they cause corruption. In this regard, the Almighty says, “Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by reason of what the hands of people have committed so that He may let them taste part of the consequence of what they have done in order that they may return [to righteousness].” (Qur’an, 30: 41)
Concluding his speech, Grand Imam At-Tayyeb, raised a cry call, as an ordinary Muslim who grieves over the pains of the vulnerable, poor, and oppressed, and as a human being disconcerted by the horror of the infernal terrorist killing machine operated by the hard-hearted entity against the safe citizens of the world, including men, women children, babies, and premature infants. Disconcerted too by the manifestations of violence, sabotage, and destruction witnessed in the usurped land of Palestine, he thus addressed the entire world:
It is time to stop these hideous, criminal wars. I’m sure that if they continue in this way - God forbid - we will have neither viable environment nor habitable climate for our children or the coming generations.
