Grand Imam mourns eminent Syrian scholar Muhammad Ali Al-Sabouni
In constant content with Allah’s Decree, His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmed El-Tayeb, mourned the Syrian scholar, sheikh Muhammad Ali Al-Sabouni, who passed away Friday morning at 91. Al-Azhar confirms that Sheikh Al-Sabouni spared no effort in serving the Glorious Qur’an, the Sunnah of His Prophet (pbuh), and main stream Islamic approach, since his graduation from Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif. Sheikh Al-Sabouni, who acquired considerable reputation among scholars and left a remarkable impact in Qur’anic exegesis, will remain a major authority in the field and his books will remain a primary reference for knowledge seekers. His Eminence the Grand Imam thus extends sincere condolences to the Muslim world, the Syrian people, the family and disciples of Sheikh Al-Sabouni, praying to the Almighty Allah to shower him with boundless mercy and forgiveness, and to make his oeuvre be an intercessor for him (on the Judgement Day): “Surely, We belong to Allah and unto Him we shall return".
