His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders (MCE), Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, received Mrs. Megawati Sukarnoputri, former President of Indonesia, at his residence in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.

The Grand Imam stressed that Islam honors women, preserves their rights, and guarantees their right to education and participation in social and political life. He pointed out the importance of the role of women in building nations and homelands, expressing his appreciation for the history of Ms. Megawati and her father, leader Ahmad Sukarno, the first president of Indonesia.

The former President of Indonesia welcomed the third visit of the Grand Imam to the country, stressing the importance of this visit to the Indonesian people, which carries great good for the Indonesians, due to the love and respect they have for Al-Azhar and its scholars. She also expressed her happiness for meeting His Eminence, and her gratitude for being chosen as a member of the jury of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity in its previous edition, among a number of international religious and cultural figures active in the field of promoting peace and human coexistence. She noted that she assumed the presidency of one of the scientific bodies for pioneering innovation and inventions and adopting distinguished research talents, as assigned by the Indonesian President. She expressed her hope to cooperate with Al-Azhar in developing these talents in various fields.

The discussion addressed ways to employ artificial intelligence in the service of Islamic dawah and religious education, confronting the growing phenomenon of Islamophobia in the West, and the necessity of coming up with a unified Islamic position to immediately stop the aggression on Gaza.
