Rwandan Ambassador requests Grand Imam to establish Al-Azhar institutes and increase scholarships for Rwandan Muslims

We are ready to increase scholarships for Rwandan Muslims and allocate half of them to study medicine, pharmacy, engineering and agriculture, Al-Azhar Grand Imam

His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, received Ambassador CG Dan Munyuza, Ambassador of Rwanda to Egypt, this morning, Tuesday, at Al-Azhar, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides.

During the visit, the Rwandan Ambassador expressed his happiness for meeting the Grand Imam, and his appreciation for his efforts to promote the values of brotherhood and coexistence, and his appreciation for the support provided by Al-Azhar to Rwanda. He stressed his country's endeavor to raise the level of cooperation and coordination with Al-Azhar by increasing Al-Azhar scholarships for Rwandans, especially in the field of applied sciences such as medicine, pharmacy, engineering and agriculture. In addition, Al-Azhar is ready to offer training to Rwandan imams at Al-Azhar Academy for Training Imams and Preachers, and to establish Al-Azhar institutes in Rwanda as a nucleus for establishing a branch of Al-Azhar University in the country.

The Grand Imam, for his part, stressed the strength of the relations between Egypt and Rwanda. His Eminence confirmed that Al-Azhar is ready to increase the number of envoys and scholarships (currently 26 annually) to the Muslim youth in Rwanda, in a manner that suits the Rwandan society and its internal challenges. Half of the scholarships will be in medicine, pharmacy, engineering and agriculture.
