Al-Azhar Grand Imam (GI), Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, received Dr. Khaled Abdel Aziz, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Alliance for Civil Development Action, and former Minister of Youth and Sports, in the presence of Dr. Sahar Nasr, Advisor to the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, and Executive Director of the Egyptian Zakat and Charity House, and General Mohamed Mustafa, Director of Projects at the Egyptian Zakat and Charity House.

 

The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar stressed the role of civil and charitable organizations in supporting the poor and needy, and improving the health and educational services provided to them, so that they can obtain the best possible quality. This is based on the Almighty’s saying: {O believers! Donate from the best of what you have earned} (Qur'an 2:267), and contributes to alleviating the economic and social loads that burden the least fortunate and most needy families.

 

The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar also stressed that the Egyptian Zakat and Charity House - the charitable arm of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif - is very keen to adhere to the legal regulations that govern the collection and expenditure of money, and to specify its resources and conditions for spending it according to Sharia. He added that the efforts and services of the House are not limited to the needy in Egypt, but have extended to include all brothers in Islamic countries who are exposed to harsh humanitarian conditions such as Palestine, Sudan, Syria, Yemen and others. Thus, Al-Azhar is keenn on the unity and cohesion of the Muslim nation in accordance with the saying of the Prophet (PBUH): “The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion and sympathy are just like one body. When one of the limbs suffers, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever.”

 

Dr. Khaled Abdel Aziz, for his part, expressed his happiness for meeting the Grand Imam, and his appreciation for the Grand Imam’s role in supporting the nation’s issues. He reviewed the efforts of the National Alliance for Civil Development Action to alleviate the burdens of the neediest families, direct donation funds to those eligible to them, and improve the services provided to beneficiaries of charitable and civil organizations in Egypt.
