The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, saluted the two ceasefire decisions in Libya, which were issued through two separate statements by the Libyan House of Representatives and the Government of National Accord in Tripoli. He tweeted, "The ceasefire in Libya is a promising start for stable conditions, and an important step on the path to peace in this brotherly country that has largely suffered the consequences of division, discord and interventions. We wholly support this agreement which aims to advance Libya's interest, independence and national unity." The Government of National Accord has announced in Tripoli, today, Friday, the cessation of all military operations in various parts of the country, calling for holding presidential and parliamentary elections next March. The Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Aqila Saleh, had called for a ceasefire, stressing the quest for comprehensive national reconciliation, and describing it as the basis of "nation building and a surety for its stability.”
