On International Women's Day: Grand Imam pays tribute to the Palestinian woman who defied occupation with steadfastness
His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, said: Palestinian women have set an example of steadfastness, courage, and clinging to their homeland, despite the ethnic cleansing and genocide they are subjected to, and despite the double standards with which the international community treats Palestinian women, considering them less humane than Western women.
His Eminence added, in a statement on the International Women's Day, which is celebrated annually on March 8, “I am shocked when some raise slogans about women's rights, but these slogans deliberately vanish when it comes to the most basic rights of Palestinian women to life and a secure existence.”
His Eminence emphasized that the Palestinian people's clinging to homeland is the fruit of the values instilled by Palestinian mothers in their children. He emphasized that history would bow in respect to the Palestinian woman who clung to her homeland and her capabilities and broke the power of the aggressive occupiers with her steadfastness.
