The Grand Imam Professor Ahmad At-Tayyeb constantly cares for international students at Al-Azhar. When His Eminence knew of the passing of an Indonesian student, called Muhammad Zamrouni, he directed that Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif bear all the expenses for the transportation of the body to be buried in Indonesia. The Grand Imam knew that Zamrouni, a third-year student at the Faculty of Theology (Usuluddin), Department of Qur’anic Exegesis, had been confined to Al-Hussein University Hospital, and that his wife was unable to pay for the transportation expenses of the body of her deceased husband to Indonesia. So, he immediately ordered that, besides paying the body transportation costs, Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif also bear the travel costs of his wife and children as well. Upon the Grand Imam’s directive, the wife and children will also be able to return to Cairo so that the wife can pursue her studies at Al-Azhar. Moreover, Al-Azhar will offer the family a constant subsidy.
This noble human gesture was highly applauded by the international students’ community in general, and the Indonesian community residing in Cairo in particular. They described the Grand Imam as the “father of international students.”
