On February 18, 2019, Ad-Drab Al-Ahumar area, a neighborhood in Cairo, witnessed a terrorist bombing that targeted a security force and resulted in the death of two policemen and the injury of three officers and dozens of civilians. The explosion was a result of an explosive device that was in the possession of a terrorist when the security forces attempted to arrest him. Then, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb made a visit to the victims of the terrorist bombing while they were receiving treatment at Al-Hussein Hospital, affiliated to Al-Azhar University, to check on them and provide psychological and moral support to them. The Grand Imam instructed that all medical staff in the hospital provide full health care for the injured ones.
The Grand Imam also directed that a scholarship be offered to the Thai student who was injured in that accident, along with housing him in the Islamic City of Al-Bu’uth Hostels. This gesture had a positive effect on the injured ones.
