The Grand Imam visits Uzbekistan
The Grand Imam began his visit to Uzbekistan by meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who praised the significant role of Al-Azhar in reflecting the moderation and tolerance of Islam. The Grand Imam announced a series of measures to maintain cooperation between Al-Azhar and Uzbekistan, including increasing the number of scholarships allocated to Uzbek students, training Uzbek Imams on how to confront extremist ideas, and hosting a number of students in Al-Azhar to study the Arabic language.
During the visit too, the Grand Imam met Prime Minister Abdullah Arifov, and Uzbek Senate Chairman, Nimatullah Yuldashev.
The Grand Imam was awarded an honorary doctorate by the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan in appreciation of his distinguished contributions and tireless efforts in illustrating the tolerance of Islam and promoting the culture of tolerance and dialogue.
Moreover, two MOUs were signed between Al-Azhar University and the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan and the Imam Al-Bukhari Center for Scientific Research.
