Mauritania
His Eminence the Grand Imam participated in the academic symposium titled, “The Duty of Scholars to Address Extremism and Intellectual Deviation”.
This visit was part of the Grand Imam’s international tour, which also included Portugal. His Eminence began his 3-day visit to the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, by visiting the Presidency of the Supreme Council for Fatwas and Grievances, and the Mauritania Radio Station, and Mahdara TV channel.
The Grand Imam delivered the keynote speech at the academic symposium held with senior religious scholars in Mauritania, under the title, “The Duty of Scholars to Address Extremism and Intellectual Deviation”.
Then, during his stay at the Mauritanian Hospitality Palace, His Eminence received ambassadors of Arab and Muslim countries, and members of the Egyptian community in Mauritania.
On the last day of the visit, the Grand Imam met the Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz at the headquarters of the Mauritanian presidency. His Eminence also met the Mauritanian Prime Minister, engineer Yahya Ould Hadmine, at the Prime Minister's office. He also witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between Al-Azhar University and the Mauritanian University of Islamic Sciences and the Higher Institute of Islamic Studies and Research.
