Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, the Chairman of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP).

His Eminence praised the efforts and constructive ideas of the GCTP in strengthening the culture of peace around the world, indicating that Al-Azhar is ready to support the role of the GCTP and support its efforts. GCTP efforts that complement the efforts made by Al-Azhar are consistent with Al-Azhar moderate approach that enhances pluralism and coexistence.

GCTP Chairman briefed His Eminence about its efforts to promote the values of peace and coexistence around the world. He indicated that the GCTP cooperates with all peace-loving countries of the world, as well as bodies and institutions that believe in pluralism and acceptance of the other, and that it managed to implement many successful ideas and initiatives in this respect.

Al-Jarwan explained that the GCTP considers Al-Azhar the intellectual reference and the umbrella uniting peace-seekers in the world. He also believes that the Grand Imam has become an icon of brotherhood and human peace in view of his global role in confronting extremism, building up bridges of dialogue, and communicating with different civilizations and religions.

Al-Jarwan added that the GCTP looks forward to Al-Azhar’s support for its efforts, and seeks more cooperation with it, especially in light of its adoption of an ambitious plan to disseminate the values of tolerance and peace through educational curricula and graduate programs because Al-Azhar is considered the leading institution in the field of education at its various levels.
