His Eminence, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, extended his congratulations to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, to the honorable people of Egypt, and to the Arab and Islamic nations on the occasion of celebrating Laylat Ul-Qadr, the night in which the Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as a light with which Allah guides whomsoever He wills among His servants, and brings them out of darkness into light, and guides them to the straight path.

The Grand Imam said during his speech today, Saturday, at the Laylat Ul-Qadr celebration in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of Egypt, that Almighty Allah described the Qur’an as “the Book, rich in wisdom”, “the Clear Book,” “the Truth,”, “a clarification of everything,”, “guidance and mercy”, “the Book about which there is no doubt", and “It cannot be proven false from any side” (41:42).  Allah revealed this Book “in truth to judge among people regarding their disputes.” It is a Book characterized by many other traits of majesty, beauty, and perfection that presented it to humankind, and led them to recite its words and contemplate its meanings.

No doubt it is a miraculous Book since it is the word of Allah - Exalted be He - who says, “Whose word is more truthful than Allah’s?” (4:87). He added that the Prophet, who conveyed it in the most eloquent way, is the most knowledgeable of the purposes and secrets of the Qur'an's eloquent verses.

His Eminence affirmed that the tragic events that we are experiencing day and night prove without a doubt that humanity has never been in any of its eras in need of the guidance of the Holy Qur’an, and divine books as it is today, adding that it is clear that our contemporary world has lost rational and wise leadership, and has begun to flounder chaotically, without reason, wisdom, or international law, and is rushing uncurbed towards an abyss the like of which history has never known before.

The Grand Imam spoke about decades of relations and civilizational dialogue between nations and peoples, which have unfortunately been transformed - in a strangely rapid manner - into clash and armed conflict, that quickly turned into into a very strange situation in the history of wars and armed conflicts. In this situation, political and military leaders, with hardened hearts completely devoid of mercy, lead an army armed with the latest weapons of murder and mass destruction that European and American factories are spewing forth. He added that such armies attack a defenseless civilian population that is not accustomed to killing or violence, and has never witnessed before the shedding of blood, nor the sight of the corpses of children, women, men and the sick, thrown in the streets or lying under the rubble of demolished buildings.

His Eminence added that fate has decreed that the innocent people of Gaza will meet their Lord as martyrs, and witnesses to the crimes of genocide and holocaust, committed by the tyrants of the twenty-first century, which they said it would be the century of knowledge, progress, human morality, freedom, democracy, human rights, and other lies and falsehoods that many of us have believed in. Such lies were established to be truths, yet they are as the Holy Qur’an says, “like a mirage in a desert, which the thirsty perceive as water, but when they approach it, they find it to be nothing." (24:39).

The Grand Imam added that international organizations and charters, like the United Nations, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and other organizations that pledge to maintain international peace and security, and the principle of equality between member states, prohibiting the use of force, even prohibiting the mere threat of it in international relations, and completely refraining from interfering in the internal affairs of states stand today helpless and crippled unable to implement a single article of what they pledged to implement. He added that such organizations have always been unable to exercise their own will, and implement their decisions, despite enjoying an overwhelming majority of member states, after being aborted by blatant interventions from tyrannical forces, trained to conceal the truth and to disguise it as falsehood in a display of arrogance and callousness.  ‏

His Eminence denounced the worst factor which was the intervention of the major powers as a supportive partner with their abundant money and deadly weapons for a brute force, knowing with certainty that it would crush the weak and the oppressed men, women, children and the sick, starve them, and surround them with unbearable pressure, so that when they leave their homes, they are faced with all kinds of suffering and torment which history will write in blood and tears in its blackest and darkest chapters.
