Al-Azhar Grand Imam: Divine beauty is reflected in everything created by Almighty Allah

The Grand Imam:

Divine beauty encompasses lower creations because it does not mean outward beauty, but rather the perfection of creation and its precision.

The perfection of creation provides oversight and protection, preventing opposing forces from overpowering one another.

The name Al-Hakeem (The All-Wise) means the Perfect, and from this comes the creation of man from clay and granting him reason, sensation, and emotion.

The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar said: The name of Allah Almighty, “Al-Hakeem,” (The All-Wise) can only be interpreted in two forms: either by the form “Fa’il,” meaning “Knowing,” or by the form “Muf’il,” meaning “Muhkim", meaning perfecting something. Almighty Allah perfected things; He says, “Who has perfected everything He created. And He originated the creation of humankind from clay” (32:7). What is meant here is the divine beauty present in everything Almighty Allah has created. He pointed out that divine beauty also includes some creatures in which beauty is not apparent, such as insects and lower creatures, because divine beauty does not mean apparent beauty or splendor. Divine beauty and grace are not just the beauty of form, but what is meant here is the perfection of creation, and this is important because this is clear especially in humans.

In the twentieth episode of the program “Imam Al-Tayyeb,” His Eminence the Grand Imam explained that if we have some creatures that cannot be described as beautiful in the sense of outwardly splendor and beauty, divine beauty is true for them in the sense of precise creation. Therefore, the Almighty says, “He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and who has not taken a son and has not had a partner in dominion and has created each thing and determined it precisely” (Quran, 25:2). This verse interpreted the meaning of the Almighty’s statement in the aforementioned verse: “He has perfected everything He created” as precise and perfect creation, not beautiful form and apparent beauty. Therefore, some lower-level creatures, such as insects, which do not appear beautiful to us, indicate the existence of Allah Almighty. Likewise, the mountains, the earth, and the heavens manifest perfect creation that is known to all. Therefore, when we see them, we stop and say, “Glory be to Allah.”

His Eminence the Grand Imam explained that what is meant by perfection - which is “utmost” - is protection, and watching and preventing opposites from dominating one another. Man, with his complex creation, is made up of internal systems that have a specific temperature. When his temperature rises slightly and reaches 40 degrees, he becomes worried and feels tired. However, Allah Almighty's perfection of His creation is responsible for controlling man's temperature at 37 degrees, and this is what is meant by good judgment and perfection of creation.

He pointed out that one of the most amazing things related to the precision and perfection of creation is the process of flower pollination. Some of them are pollinated by insects, and some are pollinated by the wind. Those that are pollinated by the wind do not need temptations to be pollinated, as the wind always blows and helps them to be pollinated. As for other plants that are pollinated by insects, they are provided with a beautiful color and a specific fragrance that attracts these insects to pollinate them.

His Eminence concluded the episode by emphasizing that this is what is meant by perfection and good judgment mentioned in the Almighty’s saying, “Who has perfected everything He created. And He originated the creation of humankind from clay.” Although man was created from clay, his creation is perfect and precise. So how could this mind and this soul emerge from clay, when they are all contrary to clay? He created man and gave him a mind, thought, responsibility, sensation, emotion, love, anger, and other qualities. None of these are attributes of clay, and then there is the soul that was breathed into it. This is the perfection that indicates wisdom. He, the Almighty, is “All-Wise” in the sense of being perfect in creating things.
